About Hillcrest

Love God.
Grow Together.
Care for the World.

For more than 75 years, a community on mission in the name of Jesus, one mile from Western Washington University.

Deep RootsPeople of all ages formed into the image of Jesus.
A Strong TrunkA shared mission beyond what we could do alone.
Broad BranchesReaching all of Whatcom County to meet real needs.

What we value

Honest

We work to stay clear of religious pretension or artificial emotions.

Intellectually and spiritually deep

Loving God with our whole mind, heart and spirit, alongside the students and thinkers of Whatcom County.

Diverse and highly relational

A healthy reflection of an eclectic, growing Bellingham, built on face to face friendships.

Creative and fun

Worship albums, art shows, dance and poetry. We still love to laugh, play games and take adventures together.

Invitational and hospitable

We go out of our way to make guests feel welcome, in our homes, neighborhoods, work and church.

Compassionate

An especially long history of caring for foster and adopted kids, tender toward the hurting right here at home.

Generous

With our thoughts, time, homes, abilities and finances, sending people and resources around the world.

What we believe

The story in nine partsOur Statement of Faith
  1. Scripture. The Bible is God's story of who he is, what the world is, and who we are.
  2. Creation and Fall. God created the cosmos and called it good, with humans as his Image Bearers.
  3. Abraham and Israel. Through Abraham's descendants the Messiah would come.
  4. Exodus. God heard the cry of the oppressed and rescued them.
  5. Kingship and Exile. The prophets spoke of a day God would rescue his people and the world.
  6. The Person of Jesus. Born of Mary, the promised Messiah and divine Son of God.
  7. The Ministry of Jesus. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus defeated sin, death and Satan.
  8. The Church. The Holy Spirit dwells in all who trust Jesus, a global, multi-ethnic community.
  9. New Heavens and New Earth. Jesus will return to make all things well.
Mission statement

Hillcrest Church is established to fulfill the command of God, to love Him with all we have, individually and corporately, and to love others as we love ourselves.

The Hillcrest Church storyTo know a community, know its story

Where Hillcrest came from, where its hurts have been, and how God has been at work over the years.

The Broad Branches InitiativeA Community Resource Center

A three year campaign to build a Community Resource Center serving Hillcrest Kids, Bellingham Chi Alpha and Hillcrest Church: a place where neighbors facing food insecurity are welcomed with dignity. The goal is $11.25 million over three years: $5.5 million for the center and $5.75 million for ongoing ministry.

The people.

A few questions for the Hillcrest team.

  • Is there parking guidance for guests without kids?
  • Is the Info Booth welcome gift still offered?
  • What time does the livestream start, and is there an accessible entrance to name?
  • Should the visit form feed your Church Center Community Card?
  • The What We Do and Royal Family Kids pages are empty right now. Anything to add?
  • Is the Seminars list and the old Discussion Boards login still in use?

For the Hillcrest team.

Your What to Expect and Treasureland pages already answer every question a first time guest has. Everything on your current site is here too, just folded so it stays calm. The first visit pieces were a few clicks deep, so I pulled them into one plan someone can build on their phone in ten seconds, next to a live countdown and your latest message.

I shoot the photos and video myself, and that footage becomes the site, from the lobby on a Sunday to the Food Bank on a Thursday.

Website and Media Package, $3,500. It includes this custom site, an on location photo shoot, Google Business Profile cleanup and launch on your domain. Hosting is $50 a month, or own it outright. This is a draft you can shape however you want.
